Le crooner XO est l’artiste le plus nominé à la cérémonie de cette année avec 16 hochements de tête, dont le meilleur artiste, le meilleur artiste masculin, le top 100 des artistes, le meilleur artiste de chansons en streaming et le meilleur artiste des ventes de chansons. Son album 2020 Après des heures a été honoré pour le Top Billboard 200 Album et le Top R&B Album, tandis que son hit « Blinding Lights » a été reconnu dans cinq catégories.
DaBaby suit avec 11 nominations, dont Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Rap Artist et Top Rap Album. Il a également marqué deux hochements de tête dans la catégorie Top Streaming Song pour «Rockstar» et «WHATS POPPIN» avec Jack Harlow.

Les autres nominés incluent Drake, Chris Brown et Megan Thee Stallion, avec sept hochements de tête chacun. Megan a le deuxième plus grand nombre de nominations pour une artiste féminine, y compris Top Female Artist et Top Rap Female Artist.
Les Billboard Music Awards 2021 seront diffusés en direct depuis le Microsoft Theatre de Los Angeles le dimanche 23 mai à 20 h HE sur NBC.
