Plus tôt dans la journée, des photos du guitariste d'Iced Earth, Jon Schaffer, ont pris d'assaut le bâtiment du Capitole américain mercredi. Maintenant, le musicien de métal vétéran fait partie des personnes d'intérêt recherchées pour «infractions liées aux troubles» par la police métropolitaine de Washington, D.C.
La police métropolitaine a dévoilé une présentation Powerpoint de dizaines de personnes recherchées pour entrée illégale dans les terrains du Capitole américain. Une photo de Schaffer, qui a déjà été diffusée dans plusieurs grands magasins de musique, figurait parmi les images incluses.
Schaffer peut être vu à l'avant d'une foule, avec un chapeau d'Oath Keepers et son doigt pointé tout en criant à quelqu'un hors du cadre. Le guitariste, qui a formé Iced Earth en 1984, a été franc sur ses convictions politiques dans le passé.
Dans le passé, il s'est demandé si Hillary Clinton avait vraiment remporté le vote populaire en 2016 et avait porté un bandana du drapeau confédéré sur scène. Il a également mis en doute la gravité de la pandémie de COVID-19 dans une interview avec Metal Sucks.
La photo de Schaffer au Capitole était l'image principale des articles de NBC News et CBS News, entre autres. On peut le voir dans la capture d’écran de la présentation «Persons of Interest» de la police métropolitaine ci-dessous, et dans d’innombrables mèmes critiquant le guitariste de métal.
Les troubles au Capitole ont été menés par des partisans de Trump qui ont contesté les résultats de l'élection présidentielle de novembre, remportée par Joe Biden. Au moins quatre personnes sont mortes dans le fracas, dont une femme qui a été abattue par un officier de police du Capitole américain.
