How did Pulp go from “obscurity to cultural touchstone”? That’s the journey that director Garth Jennings (Sing, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Son of Rambow) will explore in the upcoming movie Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore?, narrated by frontman Jarvis Cocker.
Coming to MUBI exclusively this fall, the 90-minute film will feature 20 songs from the band’s catalog (hits as well as deep cuts) as well as footage from the band’s June 2025 concert at the O2 Arena in London, one of the stops on their global tour promoting the album MORE.
Jennings and Pulp have a relationship going back to 1997, when Jennings directed a promo video for the song “Help the Aged.” Per the official press release, What Do You Do for An Encore? will be “a vibrant tribute to a band of brilliant misfits, whose unique blend of irony, rebellion, and razor-sharp social commentary resonated with generations of listeners and helped define an era of British culture.”
The film will be accompanied by Live!, a new live album which also serves as the film’s soundtrack. “A concert is an event where songs come back to life. That’s why this album is called Live!” Cocker said in a statement. “It’s both a statement of fact (it’s a recording of a live band) & a challenge (come on! Everyone come alive!).”
Live! will be released on August 28th, 2026 and is available for pre-order now. The official release date for What Do You Do for An Encore? has yet to be announced. For more, watch Pulp perform “A Sunset” live below.
